Lotus Cars Malaysia Celebrates 30 Years of Legacy, Community and the Road Ahead

Lotus Cars Malaysia proudly marks its 30th anniversary, commemorating three decades of engineering passion, design excellence and an enduring connection with Malaysian drivers, owners and enthusiasts.

Held under the theme “3 Decades. 1 Future.”, the milestone celebration brought together legacy icons, owners, partners, media, and members of the Lotus community to honor the people and defining moments that have shaped Lotus’ journey in Malaysia since 1996.

The evening paid tribute to the pioneers who helped establish Lotus in the Malaysian market, including industry leaders, motorsport legends and long-time community builders whose contributions laid the foundation for the brand’s enduring presence today.

A centerpiece of the celebration was a special fireside chat session featuring Tengku Tan Sri Mahaleel, Tengku Djan Ley, Oh Kah Beng and Marcus Chye. The conversation brought together four defining voices from Lotus’ journey in Malaysia, reflecting on the brand’s formative years, the Proton- era legacy, motorsport milestones, the rise of the owners’ movement, and the passion that transformed Lotus into a lasting symbol of performance culture in the country.

The session offered guests a rare and intimate look into the stories behind the marque — from early assembly ambitions and racing legends to the community spirit that continues to shape Lotus ownership today. More than a retrospective, the fireside chat served as a powerful bridge between heritage and the future, reinforcing the human legacy behind Lotus Cars Malaysia’s 30-year milestone.

“Thirty years ago, a legacy arrived in Malaysia. Today, we celebrate not only the journey that brought us here, but the exciting next chapter we are building together,” said Reza Mutalib, Executive Director of Lotus Cars Malaysia & Karrus Automotive Group.

A key highlight of the evening was the unveiling of a Special Edition Lotus Eletre, featuring an exclusive 30 Years of Lotus Cars Malaysia badge and a striking John Player Special-inspired livery, created as a symbol of the brand’s future-facing ambition.

Looking ahead, Lotus Cars Malaysia also shared a preview of its 2027 model year direction, reinforcing its commitment to bringing thoughtfully enhanced product specifications, stronger value and world-class performance innovation to the Malaysian market.

Beyond the cars, the anniversary celebration also underscored Lotus’ growing cultural presence in Malaysia through upcoming collaborations with leading homegrown brands.

This includes a Lotus × Pestle & Mortar capsule collection, an exclusive streetwear collaboration inspired by speed, form and the spirit of Lotus, as well as a special Lotus Blend coffee collaboration with One Half Roastery, featuring beans with a uniquely Malaysian note sourced from Johor.

The brand also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the Lotus ownership ecosystem through expanded showroom experiences, epic drives, owners’ concours events and deeper community-led activations.

In a forward-looking teaser, Lotus Cars Malaysia also announced its intention to pursue a new Lotus Emeya lap benchmark at Sepang International Circuit, reinforcing the performance DNA that continues to define the brand.

“This 30-year legacy is our foundation, and the future is ours to define. Malaysia has always been more than a market for Lotus — it is proof of what this brand can become when a passionate community truly embraces it,” added Reza.

As Lotus enters its next era, the 30th anniversary celebration stands as both a tribute to the past and a confident signal of the brand’s ambitions for the years ahead.
